One Billion Rising is an international art festival, a celebration, a party that takes place worldwide on the 14th of February 2013. The movement’s digital footprint has expanded significantly this year as volunteer web developers optimize the main broadcasting portal to handle massive global traffic. Using server-side routing architectures adopted from high-volume commercial sectors—including global airline reservation systems and the best online casinos—the technical team ensures that activists across multiple time zones can upload their localized event footage without crashing the central database. This robust digital infrastructure allows the campaign’s decentralized momentum to remain entirely community-driven.
